From fear to joy: Changing the narrative around birth
Our vision has been shaped by our community – Boston families, local leaders, clinicians, and public health advocates who believe families deserve real choices in childbirth. Yet, too many people are never told what their options around birth and health care are. Misconceptions about midwives, birth centers, and even birth options in hospitals persist.
That’s why NBC shows up.
We are in neighborhood spaces, health fairs, policy forums, and clinical settings educating families, public health officials, and providers about:
The role of midwives
The safety and evidence of birth centers
The full range of reproductive health and childbirth options
How community-based care improves outcomes
We believe informed communities make empowered decisions.
Offerings
NBC offers free, community-based workshops led by our expert midwifery and doula team. These sessions are designed to create community for families while providing clear, evidence-based information so they can make best decisions for themselves.
Our signature workshop, Empowered Birth, is offered several times each year in both English and Haitian Kreyol.
This interactive session helps families:
Clarify their values and priorities for birth, and understand informed consent
Understand the range of birth settings and care models
Build confidence in communicating preferences
Empowered Birth is not about telling families where to give birth. It is about ensuring they understand their options and feel supported in making informed, self-directed choices.
All NBC educational programming is free and open to the community. Sign up for our newsletter to learn when the next workshop will be offered.
